OFfice-Related Questions

  • Do you see adults and children?

As an internal medicine practice, our focus is on adult care only.

  • What types of insurance does Internal Medicine Specialists take?

Physicians at Internal Medicine Specialists are in network with almost every insurance provider in the state.  We also are in network with Tricare.

  • My pharmacy told me that they called your office for refill requests so that I could get my medications refilled but because they haven’t heard from your office yet, I can’t get refills. Why is this?

Pharmacies generally do not directly call our office about refills.  We do receive refill requests by fax. However, a fax line can only receive one fax at a time and other faxes are queued.  Most fax machines will automatically try to transmit the message only up to 3 times. It is likely that many refill requests don’t get through.  However, the best way to not run out of your medicine is to call the clinic at least 10 days before your prescription runs out to request the refills that you need. The easiest way to request a refill is to request one online here.

  • Why do you go over my medication list every time I come into the clinic?

The simple answer is that it is for your safety.  We prefer that you really prefer that you BRING every medication that you take (prescribed and over the counter ones) with you to each clinic visit.  Our knowing exactly what medications you take is vital to safely prescribe or change therapies.

  • Do you see patients in the hospitals in town?

At this time, we are only seeing patients in the clinic.  When one of our patients is admitted to a local hospital, we are made aware of it.  If the admission was recommended by us we then  stay abreast of our patient’s hospital course by having access to the medical records.  We then can arrange a timely follow-up visit in the clinic after the patient is discharged.

  • Does it matter which hospital that I go to in an emergency?

No.  In an emergency, you should go to the nearest facility that can address the situation best.  If you are carried by ambulance during an emergency, they will take you to the best place based on your needs.

  • What if I need medical care after hours or on the weekends, is the clinic open?

The clinic hours are Monday through Friday, and we are closed on the weekends.  However, we do have an answering service that can communicate with us when needed.  If you require more urgent medical care, you should go to the nearest medical facility and be seen.

  • If I have a medical issue, do I have to come into the office for care recommendation?

This depends on the nature of your medical issue.  If your medical issue can be answered with a simple yes/no type of answer, then perhaps not.  However, if your medical issue is affected by other variables, you will likely need to be seen.  In this case, we strive to see patients on the same day they call to be seen, we just must be aware of your need to come in.  Please call as early as possible if this situation arises.

  • What immunizations do you offer in your clinic?

We offer Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, and acellular-pertussis) and the influenza vaccines.  Other recommended vaccinations are usually available at most large pharmacies.
